65. Should I Set a Goal Weight? - Interview with Dr. Matthea Rentea

We have a misconception that we can achieve any goal weight we want. Set your target weight or BMI and then “diet harder” to get down to it, right??

The belief that we can manipulate our bodies to achieve certain numbers or metrics is misplaced at best, and extremely harmful at worst.

On today’s episode, I speak with my friend and colleague Dr. Matthea Rentea all about this. We talk about letting go of target weights and our shared approach of coaching combined with medical care for our patients.

We also talk about anti-obesity medications, like Ozempic, and why these aren’t the magic bullet – though they are helpful tools.

Dr. Matthea Rentea is a board-certified Internist and a Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine. She has 10 years experience as a primary care physician and weight-loss specialist. She owns and operates the Rentea Metabolic Clinic, a Telehealth clinic for Indiana and Illinois residents that provides comprehensive weight management. She takes a dual medical and behavioral evidence based approach to helping her patients. She is the host of the podcast The Obesity Guide with Matthea Rentea MD.
