I started my business in 2017 with zero business background. I had no clue about finances, marketing or hiring a team. It was all brand new.

I looked everywhere for a mentor in the Canadian healthcare space and couldn't find one.

So I figured it out.

I've spent the last 9 years learning everything about business, paid and organic marketing, copywriting, sales funnels, high-converting websites & tech, leading a team, and most importantly - personal development.

Yes, personal development.

Now I love helping other women physician entrepreneurs looking to start their own businesses to create more flexibility and freedom.

Here's my story:

After finishing my Internal Medicine residency in 2012, I immediately started working as a hospital-based internist at a great hospital with wonderful colleagues. But 5 years into the job, I was dissatisfied. There was so much more that I wanted to do in the wellness space...

I looked around and didn't see anyone else doing what I wanted. I had a vision for a multidisciplinary women's wellness and weight loss program delivered with the highest level of service. I knew this wouldn't happen under OHIP, but also had no idea how to merge private care with a publicly-funded healthcare system.

It took a lot of innovation and figuring things out. Lots of phone calls, time and research. And the decision to just get started.

I started small, renting space from others. One and a half years in, I invested into a private office located in Mississauga. It was beautiful: 6 clinic rooms, a waiting room clad in cedar, high-end everything.

And then the pandemic hit.

Within a week, my whole team pivoted our program to telemedicine. I learned how to create online courses and programs to increase deliverability and scale.

We realized - if we could do telemedicine, we could expand beyond Mississauga to all of Ontario.

Then patients from Nova Scotia and Newfoundland started reaching out. They found me online and couldn't find similar services in their home province. So we found a way to deliver care to the East Coast.

And then I found a way to expand to all of Canada.

In 2023, I was running two businesses: a coaching program with clients across North America, and an obesity medicine clinic.

But I got burnt out. Marketing online was taking up 90% of my energy and time. I didn't have the flexibility and freedom that I wanted. So I pivoted the business again...

Now, I have a very successful obesity medicine clinic serving thousands of patients across Ontario with a team of 15 doctors, and 6 allied health staff. Everyone on my team aligns with our values of excellence, compassion and evidence-based exceptional care. I work 3 hrs a day and only say "yes" to the fun stuff.

I have time to train for marathons, sit as the Vice Chair of a Board, and most importantly be there for my three kids.

I have a business where I'm not the bottleneck. I have a business that runs without me so I can travel. I have the freedom and lifestyle that I always wanted.

The Vision

Here's the Vision I wrote in my journal in 2018:

to deliver excellence in the health & wellness space,
to empower women to ditch dieting, lose weight for good and heal their relationship with food,
to lead a team of the best in class professionals across Canada,
to give a significant portion of my company's profit to fight child sex trafficking,
to live and work from anywhere I want in the world,
to have the flexibility to spend quality time with my family.

In 2024, it all happened.

I have pioneered a coaching + medical program for women that is leading the way in the healthcare space alongside an incredible, expert team of professionals. I spend 4 weeks in St Lucia and 6 weeks in New Zealand with my husband and three kids every winter. In the summers, I work from our cottage up North (where I'm really into homesteading!). And I wrote the biggest cheque of my life to help a cause that is near and dear to my heart: fighting child trafficking.

All while living a life that is totally aligned with my values.

I'm not special.

I'm just someone who decided to make it happen.
